Materials
These are the materials commonly used to build props, costumes, replicas, and decorative pieces.
-
ABS
A strong, impact-resistant thermoplastic commonly used in 3D printing and vacuum forming. ABS is tougher than PLA and better suited for functional parts but requires higher printing temperatures.
-
Acrylic Paint
A fast-drying, water-based paint that bonds well to many prop materials and is widely used for painting and weathering.
-
Cold Cast Resin
Resin mixed with fine metal or stone powders to create castings that closely resemble solid bronze, aluminium, iron, marble, or stone.
-
Crystal
Natural or synthetic stones used as decorative elements in fantasy props, jewellery, staffs, and magical artefacts.
-
Epoxy Resin
A two-part resin known for its strength and durability. Often used for casting, coatings, adhesives, and structural repairs.
-
EVA Foam
A lightweight closed-cell foam used for armour, weapons, cosplay costumes, and large props. It can be cut, sanded, heated, and shaped easily.
-
Fibreglass
Glass fibres combined with resin to create lightweight yet extremely strong structures.
-
Jesmonite
A water-based composite material that creates durable castings with a stone-like appearance while producing very little odour.
-
MDF
Medium Density Fibreboard, often used for templates, display bases, scenery, and structural components.
-
Metal
Used where additional strength, weight, or realism is required.
-
PETG
A durable 3D printing filament that offers greater strength and heat resistance than PLA while remaining easier to print than ABS.
-
PLA
A biodegradable thermoplastic made from renewable resources. It is the most popular filament for FDM 3D printing.
-
Silicone
A flexible rubber used to produce highly detailed reusable moulds.
-
Thermoplastic
Plastic that softens when heated and hardens when cooled, allowing it to be reshaped multiple times.
-
Worbla
A thermoplastic sheet widely used in cosplay for armour, masks, and decorative details.
-
Wood
Used for frames, handles, supports, and structural elements.
